Advancing discovery must go hand-in-hand with protecting the rights, dignity, and trust of people around the world.

The future of brain health research depends on trust

As artificial intelligence (AI) transforms brain health research, ethical stewardship cannot be an afterthought—it must be built into the foundation.
That means advances that are responsible, inclusive, and designed to benefit all communities

Our Commitment:

  • Protect privacy and participant trust
  • Ensure diverse representation in datasets
  • Promote transparency and accountability
  • Support responsible data sharing
  • Maximize societal benefit from scientific data

Advancing Global Standards Through BRIDGE

The 10,000 Brains Project is an active participant in the Brain Research International Data Governance & Exchange (BRIDGE) initiative, a global effort supported by the Wellcome Trust to develop responsible frameworks for sharing brain and mental health data.

Through BRIDGE, we are helping shape approaches to:

  • Ethical global data sharing
  • FAIR and interoperable data practices
  • Accountability and transparency
  • Equitable access and representation
  • International governance standards

As neuroscience becomes increasingly data-driven, global collaboration must be built on trust, inclusion, and responsible stewardship.

Putting patients at the center of data ethics

The 10,000 Brains Project is also helping lead a multi-year ethics initiative funded by the NIH, Alzheimer’s Association, Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, and Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative.
This effort brings together ethicists, researchers, clinicians, legal experts, industry leaders, and people with lived experience to address the emerging ethical questions of AI-driven neuroscience.

Together, we are helping develop new approaches to:
·      Informed consent
·      Responsible use of patient data
·      Governance and oversight
·      Building trust with patients and families

Because those who contribute their data deserve transparency, respect, and a voice in how it is used.

Ethics is not a constraint on innovation

It Is what makes innovation possible.
The new era of neuroscience will depend on unprecedented collaboration and data sharing.

That future can only succeed if it is built on trust.

At the 10,000 Brains Project, ethics is not a separate initiative. It is a guiding principle embedded in everything we do.
